Reverse Circulation drilling is considered as a quick and cost-effective alternative to diamond core drilling. Deep holes and rapid penetration rates are feasible with continual improvements in virtually all ground conditions, making Reverse Circulation the favored drilling method for initial exploration, ore body development, and other exploratory drilling.
Reverse Circulation drilling employs dual wall drill rods comprised of an outer rod and an inner tube. The inner tube is intended to create a continuous passage for the drill cutting to go from the Reverse Circulation Bits face to the surface. Air or fluids are pumped down the annulus between the drill rods and inner tube to the drilling tool (Reverse Circulation hammer, Tricone, or Fixed Cutter Bit). The cuttings return to the surface within the inner tubes of the rods, where they are routed to a cyclone for sorting and sample collection.
Reverse Circulation Bits are similar to traditional hammer bits in appearance, but they include sample recovery ports in the face and a big bore through the middle to accommodate the hammer's inner tube. Deep grooves on the exterior of the Reverse Circulation Bits head to allow exhaust air to drive the sample into the bit face's recovery ports.
