6-inch DTH (Down-The-Hole) hammer button bits are specialized drilling tools used in various industries, including mining, quarrying, construction, geotechnical engineering, and well drilling. These button bits are designed to be attached to a 6-inch DTH hammer to create boreholes in the earth's subsurface.

Shank Bit
LEANOMS

The shank size of 6-inch DTH hammer button bits (Button Bits) usually varies depending on the manufacturer and model. The tail shank is the connection part between the button drill bit and the DTH hammer. It needs to match the specific DTH hammer model and design. Here are some examples of possible tailstock models and configurations.

DHD shank: The DHD (Down-The-Hole) shank is a common shank type that is compatible with many DTH hammer models. DHD shanks are usually identified by a numerical number (e.g. DHD340, DHD350, etc.) to indicate their compatibility and specific design.

SD shank: SD (Sandvik) shank is another common type and is usually compatible with Sandvik brand DTH hammers. Similar to DHD, SD tail handles will also have different models (such as SD4, SD5, etc.).

QL shank: The QL (Quick Lock) shank is a common type of DTH hammer from certain manufacturers (such as Atlas Copco, now Epiroc). The QL series is usually represented by a numerical model (such as QL30, QL50, etc.).

Mission Tock: The Mission Tock is a compatible Tock for Mission brand DTH hammers. It is usually represented by a combination of numbers and letters (such as Mission 40, Mission 50, etc.).

COP Tail Shank: COP (COPROD) Tail Shank is a compatible model of some DTH hammers and is commonly used in the mining and quarrying industry.

DTH Hammer speed

The speed of the DTH Hammer directly affects the total adjustment angle of the drill head from one impact to the next. The most suitable angle depends on some variable factors such as: impact force (pressure), rock hardness, drill bit diameter, etc. The ideal rotational speed will achieve the greatest balance between drilling rate, drill bit life, and operation stability. The ideal speed will be reached when the cutting amount is maximum. The most appropriate rotation speed needs to be determined based on the actual situation. The best way to determine the rotational speed is to divide the diameter of the drill bit by 300.

This will keep the speed within the allowable range. However, a suitable rotational speed must also be related to the drilling rate. According to experiments, the appropriate rotation speed is usually that the drill head digs 3/8-3/4in. (9.5mm-19mm) per revolution of the DTH Hammer. This measurement method usually uses white chalk or soapstone to mark the drill pipe, which can be measured when the DTH Hammer rotates. The distance between the helices can be measured and used to determine whether the speed needs to be increased or decreased.

If the distance is less than 3/8in. (9.5mm), the DTH Hammer speed should be increased. If it is more than 3/4in. (19mm), the DTH Hammer speed should be reduced. Another way to set the speed is to observe the wear of the bit teeth. The first thing to grind flat should be the top of the alloy post. If the edge surface of the alloy column is ground flat first (the side facing the direction of rotation), it means that the rotation speed is too slow. On the contrary, rotating too fast will cause rapid wear of the bit body, and the wear surface is located on the part of the alloy column facing away from the direction of rotation.
