Hydraulic and Pneumatic Shanks
In general, drifting, tunneling, and extension applications with strong bending loads are better suited for male Drill Shank Adapters.
When the drilling space is constrained and the overall feed length is crucial, female Drill Shank Adapter is employed (i.e., underground roof bolting).
Internal or external flushing are the two options:
-Internal flushing transfers flushing into the drill string using a water tube that fits through the center of the drill and into an o-ring seal at the end of the Drill Shank Adapter.
-As more flushing agent may be provided externally with less chance of leakage and water hammer damage, external flushing is seen to be preferable to internal flushing.
-External or front head flushing is present on the Drill Shank Adapter of various pneumatic and hydraulic drills. In general, hydraulic Drill Shank Adapters are configured with at least 5 to 14 splines.
-Pneumatic shanks are frequently flushed internally or externally and may be recognized by their lugs or 4-spline design.
- The Drill Shank Adapter's side must have external flushing, holes, or a slot. When the shank is inserted, these fit between seals within the rock drill's front head or water box. Flushing media is directly injected into this device through the shank and into the drill string.
