DTH Hammer Selection

Dec 17, 2024

In the drilling industry, the down-the-hole hammer (DTH Hammer) is a key drilling tool, widely used in water well drilling, geological exploration, mining and building foundation construction. The down-the-hole hammer is driven by compressed air to transfer energy to the drill bit to achieve impact and crushing of the rock. The following is a detailed introduction and selection guide for four types of down-the-hole hammers:

1. Standard
Standard down-the-hole hammers provide basic protection and are suitable for standard diameter DTH hammer models. They are suitable for high versatility, variable rock formations, and rock formations within the diameter range of all standard DTH drill bits. This type of down-the-hole hammer is suitable for drilling projects with relatively stable geological conditions and moderate rock hardness. It is usually low-cost and suitable for projects with limited budgets or uncomplicated geological conditions.

2. Heavy Duty
Heavy-duty down-the-hole hammers have a larger outer diameter, increasing the outer diameter of the external components to withstand moderate to heavy external wear. They are suitable for high versatility, variable rock formations, and within the diameter range of all standard DTH drill bits. Heavy Duty Welding DTH hammers are suitable for situations where they need to withstand greater wear, such as hard rock or rock with a high silicon content, and can provide greater durability and longer service life.

3. Heavy Duty Welding
In addition to having a larger outer diameter, heavy duty welded DTH hammers also use high-hardness welding technology to further increase the outer diameter of external components. They are suitable for heavy wear and occasional extreme wear. This type of DTH hammer is suitable for extreme drilling conditions, such as rocks with high silicon content or occasions where the drill bit needs to be replaced frequently. High-hardness welding provides additional protection against wear.

4. Heavy Duty Welding Retractile
Heavy Duty Welding Retractile DTH hammers add tungsten welded cylinders on the basis of heavy welding to further enhance durability. They are suitable for heavy wear and fracture caused by material shedding. This type of DTH hammer is suitable for the most demanding drilling environments, such as frequent drill bit replacement or working in complex geological conditions. The design allows telescoping during drilling to reduce wear and improve drilling efficiency.
